LHESP strengthen management/operations of county-level
veterinary laboratories training successfully held in Lanzhou

 

In order to improve all levels veterinary lab workers’ disease diagnosis and surveillance techniques and evaluate veterinary labs performance, county-level veterinary lab technicians training was successfully held in Lanzhou from April 27th to 29th. This training was organized by LHESP Gansu Office, Gansu PMO and Gansu Veterinary Bureau in accordance of LHESP 2010 Annual Work Plan and work requirements of Gansu Veterinary Bureau. Hundred lab workers from 76 counties and 14 prefectures participated this training.

The objective of this training was to improve the laboratories standard, upgrade the knowledge and skills of lab technicians and strengthening labs management and comprehensively improving lab diagnosis and surveillance capabilities before lab evaluation and certification that will be implemented in Gansu in the future.

During the opening ceremony, Mr.Jiang Liang, Director of Gansu Veterinary Bureau, gave an opening speech and pointed that veterinary labs were the core of animal disease prevention and control system. Evaluation on labs is therefore the main approach to promote laboratories standards and lab biosafety managements. Hence, it’s important and meaningfull to hold this training for further standardize county-level lab testing procedures and promote lab workers technical skills in line with the OIE standards and regulations. Director Jiang Liang further stressed, that all trainees to take attentions in learning the contents of veterinary lab evaluation measures and based on evaluation work, all levels of laboratories to enhance lab management regulations and develop lab operation manual.

LHESP Gansu Office and PMO actively organized and well prepared this training. Mr. Xu Longchun, director of Yanbian Animal Disease Prevention and Control Centre, who participated the Canada lab management study tour, was invited to give a presentation on Veterinary Personnel Management and Performance Evaluation. Mr. Li Zuocheng, CTA of LHESP Jilin Office gave a presentation on Lab ISOIEC_17025. Other senior veterinarians including Mr. Han Qingyan, Mr. Song Jianguo, Mr.Gao Shengzhi and Mr. Wei Runsheng, from Gansu Animal Disease Prevention and Control Centre gave presentations on Level 2 lab requirements and biosafety management, ELISA testing principle and application cases, sample collection, storage and transportation, veterinary lab evaluation and certification During the training, trainees had an opportunity to made some discussion and exchange of ideas.

Trainees considered the contents of this training were very practical and useful. This training strengthened operation abilities of lab workers and promoted trainees’ awareness of labs management. This training provides the trainees the international laws and regulations of laboratory standards and requirements and the need to standardize Gansu’s all levels of laboratories management and promoting the laboratory workers skills and lab Standards.
