Technical advisors from the Livestock Health Extension Services Project (LHESP) Javier Burchard, Paul Schneider and Peter O’Donnell, as well as the Canadian Embassy veterinary counselor and CFIA expert Lesek Kumor were invited to make presentations during the Fourth Chinese Animal and Husbandry Science and Technology Forum. This event took place on 24 -25 October, 2009, in the national animal husbandry demonstration zone, Rongchang County, Chongqing.

The Chinese Animal and Husbandry Science and Technology Forum is accredited by the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) and organized by the government of Chongqing, the Chinese Association of Animal & Veterinary Sciences, the Chongqing Agriculture committee and the government of Rongchang County. Since 2005, it is held every two years and is the largest international forum in China in related to animal husbandry and veterinary medicine. Attendance was estimated at 10000 people from 30 countries, 100 universities and academies, 500 enterprises, 70 new media and Provincial- level animal health workers.

Dr. Lesek .Kumor, Paul Schneider and Peter O’Donnell made presentations about Animal Production and Food Safety - the Global and Canadian Perspective, Control and Prevention of Porcine Circovirus Type 2, and Quality Management Systems, respectively.

During a public signing ceremony, Dr. Javier Burchard, LHESP manager, signed an agreement with the Rongchang county government as a recognition of the importance of the cooperation efforts between the Canadian LHESP and the Government of Rongchang in supporting animal health extension and veterinary public health capacity building.
