At the invitation of
Agriteam Canada Consulting Ltd., a mission composed of 11 delegates from the Foreign Economic Cooperation Center, Veterinarian Bureau, Husbandry Department, China Animal Epidemic Prevention and Control Center of the
Ministry of Agriculture, and three project provinces - Xinjiang, Gansu and Jilin- conducted a 20-day study tour on Canada’s animal health from 10 to 30 June, 2006.
Canada’s husbandry is highly developed, characterized by high mechanization and intensivism. Meanwhile, animal health protection and quality control of animal products guarantee fast and sound development of Canadian husbandry. The study tour focused on animal health extension, control of major diseases, certified veterinarian system, food safety control system, husbandry production management, new feeding technologies and veterinarian research system. The mission visited 28 places including veterinarian administration agencies, associations, schools, scientific research institutes, companies, agencies, farms and veterinarian clinics of Canadian Federation and 3 provinces, namely, Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta.
With the help and coordination of Agriteam Canada Consulting Ltd. and relevant agencies, the mission accomplished its tasks and obtained a great deal of first-hand data. Through this tour, we find that Canada has a complete set of veterinarian administration agencies and a sound legal system, disease control is orderly and effective, quarantine regulation is strict and well-placed, animal drugs are administered on a tight and standard basis, R & D management is practical, lab animal safety level is high, and professional educational system is advanced. Indeed, all these play a guarding role for positive and sustainable development of animal husbandry. We should learn from their experience to promote the development of animal health and epidemic prevention and control in China, especially in the project provinces.
