Training on Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Development and Environmental Sustainability

  • From May 26th to 30th, 2008, SFAGM Project held the Training on Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Development and Environmental Sustainability in Beijing. Attending the training were 40 participants from two demonstration provinces of Sichuan and Inner Mongolia, Fuping Development Institute and China Agricultural University. Among the trainees 16 were female and 2 from ethnic minorities.

    During the training, Dr. Kevin Chen, manager of SFAGM, briefed on the SFAGM project; Bazil Fritz, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) long-term expert stationed in Inner Mongolia for Sustainable Agriculture Development Project, introduced Canadian experience in sustainable development of agriculture; Zhang Yuhua, Deputy Director of Rural Energy and Environmental Protection of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Engineering, lectured on management of non-point source pollution; Prof. Shi Minjun, an expert from Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (GUCAS), introduced strategies on rural development and environmental management; Prof. Dong Renjie of China Agricultural University gave a lecture on livestock waste disposal and resource recovery; Prof. Hu Zhengyi, Vice Dean of School of Resources and Environment, Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, introduced how to apply fertilizers and manage field environment in a scientific manner; Liu Xuming, manager of R & D center of Beijing DQY Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd., introduced the company¡¯s ecological farming projects.

    After two-day classroom teaching, the trainees were organized on a tour to ecological farms of Beijing DQY Agricultural Technology Co., LTD and Beijing Xiaotangshan Vegetable Base. The trainees were greatly impressed by the methane power generation technology of DQY Company and the environmental-friendly production model and food safety traceability system of Xiaotangshan. Through the training, the trainees learned of the urgency of controlling non-point source pollution in agriculture and rural areas and were eager to use what they learned in the training to promote models of recycle economy.
