OIE Standards and Their Effects in China, Longjing, Yanbian Prefecture

  • In order to Improve animal health and promote the understanding on World organisation for animal health (OIE) at regional level, The Livestock Health Extension Services project (LHESP) together the Yanbian Animal Husbandry Bureau (AHB) held a training activity related to OIE standards and its effects in China from on May 14th-15th, 2008. It was the first training about OIE standards given in Yanbian Prefecture. There were 54 participants 11 female; 43 male; 30 minority and 24 Han.

    Presentations were given by Dr. Les Kumor, Canadian Food inspection Agency (CFAI) counselor from the Canadian Embassy in the P.R. China; Dr Peter O¡¯Donnell LHESP long term technical advisor (LTTA) from Yanji; Dr. Jane Pritchard LTTA from Gansu; Dr Cai Lijuan from China Animal Health and Epidemiology Center (CAHEC) and Mrs. Han Mingzi from the Animal Epidemic Disease Prevention Center (AEDPC).

    Facilitators gave excellent lectures. The participants were satisfied with this activity. Through this training, the participants understood fundamentals of OIE standards, function, objectives and their relationship with other international organizations. This training had a positive impact on the participants as they realized that OIE standards will play an important role in their future work on Animal Health. This training strengthens the participant¡¯s OIE awareness and knowledge. Participants will continue to increase their proficiency on OIE standards to promote OIE compliance in China and apply the new knowledge to actual work situations and make contributions aimed to comply with international regulations.
