Training on Food Safety Network Information Held in Beijing

By Duan Nan (CCADP Beijing Program Office)

  • Jointly sponsored by Small Farmers Adapting to Global Markets (SFAGM) Project and Import & Export Food Safety Bureau of General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ), the ¡°Training Workshop on Food Safety Network Information¡± opened at Beijing Saifute Plaza on February 25, 2008. Mr. Lin Wei, Deputy Director of Import & Export Food Safety Bureau, GAQSIQ, and Mr. Dave Wasylyshen, Canadian Director of China-Canada Agriculture Development Program, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. 22 technical specialists from related departments of GAQSIQ as well as the exit-entry inspection and quarantine bureaus from the provinces and cities of Liaoning, Shanghai, Shandong, Shaanxi, Shenzhen, Guangdong and Yunnan participated in the one-week training on food safety network information. Two officials from Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Wayne Snider and Randy Wiens, were invited to introduce how Canada establishes, maintains and uses ¡°automatic import reference system¡±, ¡°call-back and pre-warning system¡± and ¡°pre-warning name-list inquiry system for import of food-fishery and maritime products¡±, and they also exchanged views with their Chinese counterparts. We believe that this training will enable Chinese inspectors and quarantine workers to get to know Canada¡¯s information network technology in food safety, and provide useful reference for China to develop appropriate management software and standardize its regulation.
