Training Course of Reproduction held at Changbai City

  • Thanks for the great help and support by the AHB of Yanbian Prefecture to the training, and the well organized arrangement, the course related to animal reproduction held from August 13 to 15 was very successful.

According to the plan, 40 members got the financial support from LHESP, but 54 participants went to attend the course. The title and positions of the participants were relatively high, including the heads of AHB of 7 cities and counties, as well as the heads from all the veterinary stations of townships of Changbai. Mr. Zhou Zhiming, Head of AHB of Yanbian Prefecture went to Changbai during the days of the course. He and Mr. Fang Chunri, the Head of Changbai County, and Mr. Liu Meng, Deputy Head of the County attended the opening ceremony of the course on Aug. 13, 2007, the later also held a dinner one day before to welcome Peter O’Donnell and the officials and staff from AHB of Yanbian Prefecture. Mr. Liu Guiqiu, Deputy Head of Yanbian AHB held the course. Local TV journalist also was invited to attend the course and the news related was released on local TV.

The course delivered by Peter O’Donnell included: Introduction of the agricultural development in Ireland, which might be used for reference by the rapid development of China’s agriculture; reviewing the anatomy by participated way, physiology, infertility, 5 case studies discussed by groups, AI techniques, pregnancy diagnosis, parturition, etc. Particularly the practice by the way of touching several uterine (one of them had about 65 days fetus), and quite a few ovaries prepared by AHB at the request of Peter, received warmly welcome by all the participants. Peter asked the participants to observe and touch them carefully first, then with blindfold to feel out their differences.

Although most of the participants were men this time, as very few female vets were involved in reproduction work at the moment, the lady participants have shown great interesting on the training. They got the chances to give demonstration, to brief sum-up about what they learnt. For example, Ms. Shi Hongli, the Head of Antu County Breeding Station, who was experienced on AI, was invited to give a further explanation to others about AI technique and gave direction during the practice.

According to the 40 copies of feed back received, 98.75% of them gave the highest score on all the 12 items of evaluation; 100% of them felt “satisfied with the training and its outcome”. The content enjoyed by most of participants are: participatory way of training, the part of hand-on training, the new concept related on vet service provided to farmers and the husbandry development in Canada and Ireland, and some new knowledge such as the brief introduction about embryo transfer delivered by Ms. Gao Jianhong, Assistant of LHESP Jilin Office. They hope to have more opportunities to take part in such an effective training, especially on-hand training, to get more information and concept about the vet service from abroad, as well as the advanced technique and know-how.
