There are 301 farmer associations and cooperatives (FAs and FCs) in Hunan Xiangxi prefecture, most of them are still in their early stage of development. The local governments of different levels have initiated a series of activities to publicize the newly enacted Chinese Farmer Cooperative Law and to promote the functions of FAs and FCs over the last two months. With 1 prefecture level TOT training and 3 pilot county level FAs and FCs promoting trainings, the 4325 Hunan Farmer Association Promoting activity was a strong and timely support to this initiative. Tim and Chinese TAs were invited to deliver the trainings. A total of 162 FAs and FCs promoters and operators were trained, among them 29 were female trainees. To ensure the activity quality, various of training methods were used including in class trainings, case analysis and experience sharing, group discussion and field visit to FAs and FCs. Trainees said this was the first time they had such a series of FA trainings in Hunan Xiangxi and was a great promotion to the function of local FAs and FCs.
