Position Summary

This is a part-time capacity building position in the Sustainable Agriculture Development Project (SADP) for a PhD student. The individual must be able to work as part of a team, take orders and carry out project related activities under the guidance of more experienced personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Project Officer(Technical) under contract to Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), will be responsible to:

Project Operations

  1. Liaise closely with the Chinese counterpart bureaus and organizations on all matters related to effective project implementation in Hongyuan County under Sustainable Agriculture Development Project in Sichuan province;

  2. Provide technical assistance to local experts and trainers in Hongyuan to assist in the adaptation of technologies which are appropriate and effective at the field level through demonstration and extension programs;

  3. Perform surveys in Hongyuan and keep detailed notes as requested;

  4. Perform some verbal translation for Canadian short-term experts if needed;

Training

  1. Assist local counterparts in Hongyuan in the design and development of specific training materials and techniques related to the project objectives;

  2. Assist LTTA and counterparts in organizing and carrying out training activities in Hongyuan at the county/township/village level when needed;

  3. Input training evaluation data, maintain the training database and submit to BPO;

Reports and Workplans

  1. Compile reports and information as requested by LTTA;

Qualifications

  1. Must be a resident or a student of Sichuan Province and a Chinese citizen.

  2. Master Degree in Animal nutrition or grassland management and working towards Ph Degree preferred.

  3. Proven proficiency in English and Chinese and knowledge of Tibetan language is preferred. Demonstrated written and oral communications skills.

  4. Experience in animal husbandry, grassland management or agriculture related work and knowledge of geography and environmental conditions in Hongyuan County.

  5. Should be willing to travel and spend time in Hongyuan County if needed.

  6. Should be patient, friendly, outgoing, like working with people and eager to learn and communicate new ideas, methodologies and concepts.

  7. Must be able to take orders from other more qualified personnel and complete tasks assigned and meet deadlines.

  8. Must know how to type in Chinese and English and use Microsoft Word, EXCEL, Power Point and Email.

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications/experiences.
